Milano is calling

Highlights from Milan Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2011

Emilio Pucci

Every season, the Pucci show is bold and bright and for this showing, it was no different. Designer Peter Dundas certainly kept me in awe with some sexy, form-fitting ensembles in incredible prints and baroque embellishments. A beautiful collection indeed.

Dolce & Gabbana

Talk about a complete 360 by Dolce & Gabbana, from their ultra feminine, all white Spring collction to this explosive, masculine collection. They had me seeing literal stars with elegant dresses and pants in a playful star print. I loved the rock 'n roll menswear - the suit jackets, suspenders and pork pie hats in crystal embellishments, lace and jewel tones. This has to be one of my favourite Dolce & Gabbana collections. (And it was lovely seeing South Africa's very own Candice Swanepoel on the ramp).

Versace

Donatella's one talented woman, but I must admit that this collection did leave me a bit underwhemled. Yeah, the bags, the metal embellishments and dresses were great. So was the military thread of the collection and the use of fur for the finale pieces. But, I don't know... I just expected more. You know, another twist to the 'strong, sexy woman' we've come to expect of Versace.

Gucci

I'm a Gucci girl through-and-through so naturally, I loved this collection. The gorgeous hues (think: fushcia, yellow, turquoise), exotic leathers, huge blossoms and furs just scream opulence. I particularly loved the oversized hats, bell-bottoms and tailored jackets. And it was lovely seeing Joan Smallz close the show. J'adore.
